Free rezzable scanner + audio warning if anyone new is near you and your friends
The Bright Privacy Radar will warn you if anyone arrives nearby while you are working, chatting with friends, or getting squelchy with someone you love. With a real audio alarm, it is much harder to miss than a new name on your HUD avatar scanner.
To unpack your radar, drag the "Bright Privacy Radar boxed" from your inventory onto the ground. Right-click, click "Open" in the circle menu, and click "Copy To Inventory" at the bottom of the contents window which appears. This will create a new folder in your inventory called "Bright Privacy Radar boxed".
To use your radar, simply rez it and click it. A menu will pop up asking you how far to scan. Click a button between 20m and 90m. The radar will display a list of everyone already in that range, whom it will consider "friends" and ignore. But when anyone *else* arrives, the radar will show their names, turn from green to red, and warn in a female voice "alert, alert, alert!".
Then just click to switch it off, and click to switch it back on again: if the new arrival is a friend, they will be included in the list of people to ignore.
And that's all there is to it! Anyone can switch it on with a click, and any of the people there when it was switched on can switch it off again with another click. If there is noone nearby, it will automatically switch itself off to avoid lag.
* Chat can be heard 20m away: so to enjoy chat with friends safely, choose a range of at least 30m. IM is private, but it's harder to move around when you have an IM window open, and group IMs are a nuisance to set up. Enjoy chatting in privacy :)
* People can use their cameras to see over much longer distances: but being unable to approach reasonably closely without being spotted makes it harder - especially as they do not realise they will be noticed. If you don't like voyeurs peering into your skybox, choose the longest range you can without including your neighbours homes.
* Put a radar wherever you might wish to be private! Keep one on your coffee table or by your bed. They are only one prim, and automatically stop scanning when not in use - so don't worry about prims or lag!
* Keep the radar handy in your inventory to use while you are out. Rez it while you're building on a sky platform in your sandbox - if your screen is covered in scripts, it will wake you up if anyone approaches!
* Anyone can switch it on, so put one wherever visitors to your venue might wish to use it to be private: near your private dining table, in the romantic grassy corner of your sim, or on your secluded beach.
* Don't worry: only you and your friends (ie. the people who were nearby when you switched it on) can switch it off: it won't be disabled by an intruder as long as you are there.
